چکیده

purpose: to evaluate and compare tear secretion and tear film instability following laser in situ keratomileusis (lasik) and laser assisted subepithelial keratectomy (lasek). methods: in a randomized clinical trial, 30 eyes of 15 patients underwent lasik and 30 eyes of 15 patients underwent lasek to correct myopia. tear secretion and tear film instability were tested preoperatively, 2 and 6 weeks, and 6 month postoperatively, using tbut (tear break-up time) and schirmer i and ii tests. results: six month after surgery, tbut, schirmer i, ii tests decreased significantly in lasik group compared with lasek group. there was no significant difference between lasik and lasek groups preoperatively. conclusion: the decrease in tear secretion was greater after lasik than lasek at 6 months' follow up. proper treatment of dry eye is required after lasik and lasek, particularly after lasik surgery.

Comparison of higher-order aberrations after wavefront-guided laser in situ keratomileusis and laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy.

PURPOSE To compare the higher-order aberrations (HOAs) in 70 eyes (38 patients) that had wavefront-guided laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) with those in 70 eyes (40 patients) that had wavefront-guided laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy (LASEK) for the treatment of myopia. SETTING Department of Ophthalmology, Yonsei University College of Medicine, Myongdong Bal-geun sesang Eye Clinic...

Factors Affecting Long-term Myopic Regression after Laser In Situ Keratomileusis and Laser-assisted Subepithelial Keratectomy for Moderate Myopia.

PURPOSE High myopia is known to be a risk factor for long-term regression after laser refractive surgery. There have been few studies about the correction of moderate myopias that did not need retreatment after long-term follow-up. We evaluated 10 years of change in visual acuity and refractive power in eyes with moderate myopia after laser refractive surgery. METHODS We included patients tha...

Decreased tear secretion after laser in situ keratomileusis for high myopia.

PURPOSE To investigate the changes in tear secretion and tear film stability after excimer laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for high myopia. METHODS One eye of 28 patients underwent unilateral LASIK for the correction of myopia with spherical equivalent refractions ranging from -6.37 to -18.25 D (mean, -11.98 +/- 3.45 D). Schirmer tear test values without anesthesia at 5 minutes and tear ...

Alcohol- vs hypertonic saline-assisted laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the predictability and safety of hypertonic saline (5% sodium chloride) [correction]-assisted laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy (HS-LASEK) vs 20% alcohol-assisted LASEK (A-LASEK). SETTING American Laser Medical Center, Rishon Le-Zion, Israel. METHODS Fifty-two consecutive eyes (26 patients) were randomized to HS-LASEK (30 eyes) and A-LASEK (22 eyes) groups. The ...

Laser-Assisted Subepithelial Keratectomy versus Laser In Situ Keratomileusis in Myopia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

This systematic review was to compare the clinical outcomes between laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy (LASEK) and laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for myopia. Primary parameters included mean manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE), MRSE within ±0.50 diopters, uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) ≥20/20, and loss of ≥1 line of best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA). Secondary parame...
